Buddha Shakyamuni was born Siddhartha, the only son of an Indian king. At his birth it was prophesied that he would either become a great king or the Buddha of this age. His father was determined that his son would follow in his footsteps and prolong the dynasty and believed that the only way he could prevent his son from pursuing his alternate destiny was to confine him to the palace, thus shielding him from understanding
the suffering of worldly life.

Depicted here with two of his main disciples Maudgalyayana and Sariputra on the bottom. On the top features the buddha of past represented by Dipamkara (buddha of past) and Maitreya (buddha of the future) Together the thangka composition represents Buddhas of the three times, Buddhas of the Past, Present and Future.

Each thangka is created using traditional methods and strictly adhering to the proportions of deities as they are laid down in Buddhist scripture. The colors are natural, extracted from plants and minerals, and adorned with 24k gold paint. Each piece is witness to a unique tradition that survives intact to this day.

The thangka comes framed in a traditional silk brocade border.
